“Ma, are you sure about this?” Nu-Nu asked.

“Yes, I am sure and don’t question me. You need to be finding a family for that baby because ain’t no kids coming up in here.”

“I’m grown and if I want to keep this baby, I will,” she shot back. Nu-Nu was going on thirty and Linda was still trying to run her life. Vickie might’ve been cool with it, but she tired of the shit.

“Grown my ass. You don’t pay for nothing and I wish you would ask your brother to help you get a place. I’ll shut that down faster than the words can leave from your mouth.” Linda glared at her daughter. “For the life of me, I can’t understand why you want a baby with a man who won’t claim you. Cut your ties now and you can still live your life and find a husband.”

“She has a point, Nu,” Vickie sat across from them scrolling on her phone.

“I know I do because mama knows best and don’t ever forget that.”

“Ok, here she goes, ma.” Vickie handed Linda the phone. She looked over it and handed it back.

“Good, now find the rest.”

​Nu-Nu sat back and shook her head. When Linda said she wanted to give Rex and Yana a party, she knew there would be strings attached. She hadn’t even sat down and talked to Yana and now she wanted to throw them a party. Nu-Nu hoped for Yana's sake that she was a smart girl because nothing Linda did was pure. She had Rex so wrapped around her finger that he couldn’t see the bullshit, but Nu-Nu did.

“Did you invite Justin?” Vickie asked her mother. Nu-Nu looked up, catching the hope in her sister's eyes.

“Yes, I’m going to see what the problem is. You are a nice looking girl and he should be honored you even want him.”

“Right.”

“What if he wants someone else?” Nu-Nu asked.

“Who you?” Linda snorted. “That man doesn’t want a loose girl like you. Focus on finding that baby a home rather than what your sister has going on.”

“You like Justin?” Vickie asked.

“No, but if he doesn’t want you, why keep throwing yourself on him? I’m sure you can find someone who wants what you have to offer.”

“You sound jealous.”

“Jealous because I’m telling you to stop begging for a man’s attention? Something your mama should be telling you instead of setting you up on these dummy missions,” Nu-Nu frowned. She could say much more, but that would be like exposing herself.

“How about you worry about you and I’ll worry about me.”

“Ok girls, enough. The real enemy is this Yana girl. Let’s focus on getting her away from your brother and then we’ll handle everything else.”

“Ok,” they both mumbled.

​Linda thought long and hard of ways to get Rex away from Yana before it was too late. She’d hate for the girl to get pregnant and they’d be stuck with her for life because Rex would never walk out on his child. With the help of her girls, Linda decided to throw them a party at her house.
